Granulated Lime
High quality easy spreading granulated lime. It has a Neutralizing Value of 54%. You will need 15g/m2 for every 0.1 of pH you wish to raise your soil. Granulated lime is a slow release product. It is much cleaner product to apply than ground limestone. Suitable for hand spreading or fertilser spreaders.
Granulated Lime can be added all year around, but it is recommended to add in good time before planting as effects are not instant. Granulated lime is always best incorporated thoroughly through the soil profile. Fork in or rotovate to about 8" depth if possible.
General Liming Principles
The pH 7 (neutral) is not always the desired target. Often pH 6.5 (slightly acidic) is more desirable. If you are insure of the pH of your soil and want a full laboratory anlalysis carried out please see out analytical services. Try to avoid applying rates in excess of 30g/m2 in one go as this can cause other nutrient lock up. Raising the pH is a slow process as cation exchange needs to occur within the soil particles. If your soil is very acidic, you may need to build up the pH over a number of seasons. It is better to maintain a pH by giving soils a maintenance dressing each year. Avoid liming areas where you have plants that thrive in acidic conditions such as azaleas and rhododendrons. Top tip, do not lime ahead of potato crop, this will reduce the incidence of potato scab.
